Lyhyt kokeellinen elokuva.

Taustaa:

Kazimir Malevitšin maalaus ”Musta neliö” esiteltiin maailmalle 1915, ja se mullisti taiteen ja sen mitä siitä pitäisi ajatella. Musta neliö oli ensimmäisiä teoksia, joka ei esittänyt mitään. Tavallaan se sisälsi kaikki merkitykset ja ei mitään merkitystä yhtä aikaa.

Malevitšille taulu oli hänen suprematismiksi kutsumansa taidesuuntauksen lähtölaukaus ja äärimmäinen julistus. Hän halusi, että taululla olisi erityinen henkinen merkitys. Samalla hän halusi irrottaa taiteen ”todellisen maailman painolastista”.

”Musta neliö” saapui keskelle Venäjän kaaosta, syntymässä olevaa vallankumousta ja ensimmäistä maailmansotaa, ja Malevitšin aloittama vallankumous heijastelee muutosta omalla tavallaan.

”Musta neliö” on vapaa ja avoin tulkinnoille, ja pieni kokeellinen elokuvani ”Musta neliö” leikittelee tulkinnoilla heijastaen niitä omaan aikaamme ja sen kaaokseen. Elämämme kuluu keskellä mustia neliöitä ja suorakaiteita, jotka syytävät informaatiota, jonka määrä hukuttaa merkitykset alleen. Merkitysten täydellinen inflaatio on sen kaaoksen ydin, josta jälleen voi syntyä jotakin uutta. Ainakin voi toivoa niin.

Kazimir Malevich’s painting “Black Square” was presented to the world in 1915, and it revolutionized art and what should be thought of it. Black Square was one of the first works that represented nothing. In a way, it contained all meanings and no meaning at the same time.

For Malevich, the painting was the starting point and the ultimate declaration of the artistic movement he called Suprematism. He wanted the painting to have a special spiritual meaning. At the same time, he wanted to free art from the “weight of the real world” (Non-objective world, 1927).

“Black Square” arrived in the midst of chaos in Russia, the nascent revolution, and the First World War, and the art revolution that Malevich started reflects these changes in its own way.

“Black Square” is free and open to interpretation, and my small experimental film “Black Square” plays with these interpretations, projecting them onto our own time and its chaos. Our lives are spent amidst black squares and rectangles that throw information, the amount of which drowns out all meanings. The complete inflation of meanings is at the core of the today’s chaos from which something new can arise again. At least one can hope so.
