The concept of forest’s cover is known in old Finnish mythology. Those who are caught in forest’s cover feel strange and alien. Some say that the world has become silent, birdsong and other forest sounds have ceased. Even a familiar forest may become strange and different. Some people who are caught in forest cover freeze in place, unable to move or speak, while others walk through an unfamiliar area.
It is said that those who are caught in forest’s cover disappear from the sight of others, and others cannot find them even if they pass by. Those who are caught in forest’s cover may also look like a stone or a stump.

The state of being covered by forest is experienced as unusual, as if the experiencer had suddenly entered a parallel reality – the world of the dead, the underworld or elves. One may be caught by the forest if he has offended the forest spirits in some way.

Modern man has deeply offended the forest with his actions and activities. In our experimental film “Vortex” the main character is taken to another world through a vortex. In some cultures, vortexes are believed to be spiritual gates to other worlds and dimensions.

Suomalaisessa vanhassa mytologiassa tunnetaan metsänpeiton käsite. Metsänpeittoon joutuneelle tulee omituinen, vieras olo. Jotkut kertovat maailman samalla hiljentyneen, linnunlaulun ja muiden metsän äänten vaienneen. Tuttukin metsä saattaa muuttua vieraaksi ja erilaiseksi. Jotkut metsänpeittoon joutuneet jähmettyvät paikalleen pystymättä liikkumaan tai puhumaan, toiset taas kulkevat läpi tuntemattomaksi muuttuneen seudun.

Metsänpeittoon joutuneen väitetään katoavan muiden näkyvistä, eivätkä muut löydä häntä, vaikka kulkisivat ohi. Metsänpeittoon joutunut saattaa myös näyttää kiveltä tai kannolta. Vanhoissa tarinoissa metsänpeittoon joutunut on saattanut kyllä nähdä etsijät, mutta ei ole pystynyt saamaan näihin mitään kontaktia.

Metsänpeiton tila on koettu tavallisuudesta poikkeavaksi, ikään kuin kokija olisi yllättäen astunut rinnakkaistodellisuuteen tai tuonpuoleiseen – vainajien, maanalaisten tai haltijoiden maailmaan. Metsänpeittoon on saattanut joutua, jos on jollain tavalla loukannut metsänhaltijoita tai maahisia.

Nykyihminen on teoillaan ja toiminnallaan loukannut metsää erittäin syvältä. Kokeellisessa elokuvassamme ”Pyörre” päähenkilö temmataan toiseen maailmaan pyörteen kautta. Joissakin kulttuureissa pyörteiden uskotaan elovan spirituaalisia portteja toisiin maailmoihin ja ulottuvuuksiin.
